BEETROOT
Beetroot, known for its intense, red colour, is a great source of vitamin C, dietary fibre and antioxidants. Grate and use raw in salads, or roast, boil and steam and serve as a nutritious side dish to accompany meat and fish. In Australia, beetroot is well known as the iconic ingredient of the traditional Aussie version of a hamburger.

CHARACTERISTICS
- A turnip like, bulbous root that is smooth and firm, moderate length tap root maybe retained 
- Red purple root often streaked with white; deep bright red purple flesh purple stems. 
- Globe shaped roots; long slender stalks with erect approximately oval leaves 
- Fresh firm roots; not very small (immature); no evidence of woodiness (over mature) 
- For maximum shelf life, it is best kept at temperature between 2-8 degrees.
